| In October of 2005, some 350 Genbukan members and their families from all over the world gathered in Kinugawa, Japan, for the first international taikai in Japan. For four days, from 9am to 5pm, participants trained hard with sincerity and determination. They experienced a wide variety of disciplines including taijutsu, kenjutsu, bojutsu, shuriken, yumi, and more. Every night there was a banquet and enjoyable performances such as traditional Japanese performances (awa-odori, kagura, wadaiko), western performances (belly dancing, East European dancing, and Irish dancing), special Indian dancing, and cutting sashimi from a whole tuna fish. Everybody greatly enjoyed the taikai and learned many things about our Genbukan martial tradition.
The taikai was led by soke Tanemura sensei, Honbu dojo shihan, and staff. Tanemura sensei taught many special things that are usually kuden. Sensei lectured about Amatsutatara shumon, and answered questions openly. Helping Tanemura sensei in instruction were Honbu dojo shihan who also demonstrated techniques. Attending the taikai were also thirteen members from the Genbukan Tokyo Shibu, some of whom came from England and Australia (Nanzan dojo). The taikai was a great success, and the next one is already scheduled for 2007, to be held in Kyoto and Nara. |
